Osaka’s nighttime “fun experience” at SEMBA10 Place
Osaka is known as “Japan’s Kitchen,” however, there are surprisingly few traditional cultural activities to
enjoy in the city other than eating and drinking, especially at night. Therefore, “Nagomi” will hold regular
“Culture Night” events at its base, the event space “SEMBA10 Place” in Osaka’s Semba Center Building
B1. Various Japanese traditional performing arts and culture will be presented on stage in addition to
workshops and other attractive entertainment.

Experience the powerful sound of Japanese drums that will resonate deep in your heart and stomach! After a beautiful performance on the Shinobue, you will pick up a drumstick and experience beating the drum rhythmically.
You will also enjoy the traditional Japanese art of Rakugo in English, experiencing its storytelling skills and unique way of expression! Experience the charm of this unique art form, Rakugo, that you won’t find anywhere else.

Founded by Hiroki Yamanaka, a taiko and shinobue player.
The group consists of members who are active both in Japan and abroad, and performs mainly in the
Kansai region but also in other parts of Japan.
Their rhythmical and delicate performances on Japanese traditional instruments such as taiko and
shinobue, as well as their entertaining performances on stage, move the audience’s hearts and have
been well received in many places.

The English Rakugo Dojo Nigiwaitei was established in April 2006 by a Rakugo player Showto who is carrying on the wishes of the late Mr. Yamamoto, the representative of HOE English Conversation School, who taught English to Katsura Shijaku, a pioneer of English Rakugo.
Currently, our Dojo students, ranging from elementary school students to elderly retired people, enjoy Rakugo in English, Japanese, and some other languages.

Mitsuka Yoshida
Otome Bunraku
Profile
Otome Bunraku puppeteer, leader of Mitsuka-za.
She has performed on many stages overseas and in
various parts of Japan. She started Japanese dance at the age of 3 and became a master of the
Wakayagi school at the age of 12. She later studied under Mitsuko Yoshida, Otome Bunraku puppeteer,
and assumed the name Koka Yoshida. In 1997, she performed with a puppet in the rakugo story
“Tenjinyama” by the late Bunshi Katsura V, a leading figure in Kamigata rakugo, which was well received.
Later, she became independent as a professional. She is active not only in classical music, but also in
many other fields, such as appearing in a music video by Ringo Shiina.
